Hey Racers
Does having a longer lead from clew to deck, help
I know that it makes you heal more. But does it give any more speed or
power?

interesting question. Under most conditions, it should increase your heeling
moment, move the C of E of the whole rig forward, and slightly reduce your
speed and power.

The reasons that speed and power are reduced are the lack of endplate effect
offered by the deck, the increase in confused air around the foot of the
jib, and the change in heeling amount for the amount of wind and sea.

Is this always the case? I am not smart enough to know all the
configurations.

is there any goodness from raising the jib? Sure-better visibility under the
jib.

your boat-your fun---your choice.
good luck.
