Here you go Johnny & Hanky...

This from the manufacturer of my gaff... although I'm sure you think y'all know more than these fine folks from Maine who supply commercial fishery products.

Yep. Them's gaffs alright. Is that what you haul in your puppy with?

Looked like they all had 'stainless steel hooks', or did I miss something?

John H. -- Hope you're having a great day!

So why does that mean that they are sharp?

They are a hell of a lot sharper than my boat hook. Plastic hook.

Those gaff's must be an East Coast item. You see 99% of the gaffs have
Calcutta Bamboo handles. Probably 100% on a commercial boat. I have a
metal handle on my main gaff.

Bingo!
Around here you can guy the gaff either way....with a 'bull nose like mine for picking up gear or the sharp version for fishing.

Trawler Gaffs All our gaff handles are fashioned in our shop from tough
Maine grown White Ash. Features a 5/16” stainless steel hook wrapped and
sealed with durable epoxy. The Trawler Gaff is our top of the line boat
hook.

"boat hook"
