I hope you know I was being tongue in cheek when I said I survived.
Some seemed to be worried that I removed my own sliver, even resorting
to an exacto knife to open up the tissue. I guess there is just to much
talk in the media about infections.

I was working with sheet metal all day and I am sure I have a dozen
cuts worse than your "surgery". I hope I survive.
Who else would humor Kevin the way I do?
I did get a couple hundred sq/ft of pan roof up without falling off
the ladder (the real danger)
We had a large tree come down due to strong winds. It wasn't on the
ground because two other trees caught it and were holding it horizontal,
about 15 feet above the ground.
I got my trusty chainsaw out along with my tallest stepladder. Did a
"dry" run, climbing up the ladder with the chainsaw not running.
I could just reach where I'd have to cut to free the tree. 20 years ago
I probably would have gone for it. But I stood there, on top of the
ladder, thinking about how that tree was going to come crashing down and
got a mental flash of it taking out the ladder with me on it holding a
running chainsaw.
Went back to the house and called a professional.
That's a happy ending. I'd have hated to read a post from your wife describing all the lacerations
and broken bones.
