It's just a fictional movie. Dr. Zhivago was a terrific book and movie,
though the movie differed from the book, and neither really depicted the
level of horror of the first few years of communist rule in Russia.

I understand fiction and if it is sold as fantasy like Superman, I can
suspend disbelief long enough to enjoy it but these movies are sold as
being somewhat of a plausible reality and I just have problems with
the whole premise.

I enjoy a good roadrunner cartoon too but they don't try to sell it as
being something you are supposed to believe.

Same here, I'd just as soon watch travel shows or other real things.

Speaking of Dr. Zhivago ...

The movie came out when I was living in Connecticut. I was "exploring"

at the time, dating different girls every week or so. All they wanted

to do was see "Dr. Zhivago". I must have seen it 5 times in 3 months.

Catchy tune from that movie...

Got stuck in New York overnight with wife and kids (on way to Disneyworld) way back in the early 90's. A guy in tux and violin played this at our dinner table.

You *had* to do it, huh? I didn't even open the youtube link and I
knew it was "Laura's Theme". Now it's stuck in my head for the rest of
the day.

Thanks a lot ! :-)

Got a kick out of the scene where the Dr and his family Arrived in the frozen Sumner home.
In a similar situation,
My buddies and I went out to a camp after midnight fueled on cheap bootlegger wine.
There were two double beds to hold six of us and the frost was about an inch thick on the bedspread.
I worked until 5 to unthaw the small oil stove.
Didn't sleep much that night due to a lot of gunplay inside the cabin initiated by me.
No campers were hurt in the mayhem...the cabin wasn't so airtight after that.

It's Lara's Theme, named for the character Lara Antipova. Lara is a
Russian name, Laura is not. The familiar version of Lara, used by family
members and close friends, would be...Larissa. I have a cousin Lara, but
she uses the variant Laryssa, which is also acceptable among Russians.
Her grandmother's first name was Tonya, also Russian.

Eyewitnesses reported that during last night’s 9:15pm Real3D screening
of Gravity, a lone man (later identified as retired ISS Commander Chris
Hadfield) began muttering under his breath and chuckling to himself. By
the 30-minute mark, Hadfield reportedly made numerous rude comments such
as, “Nice Soyuz procedure, Hollywood!” and “Oh yeah, because that’s what
hypoxia as caused by rapid cabin decompression looks like you idiots!.”

“It was the damndest thing,” recounted Isabelle Tremblay. “My boyfriend
and I were like, ‘what a jerk’, and he went back to talk to him. But
then he came back to our seats and he was like ‘I’m pretty sure that was
that astronaut guy. You know, from the news.’ So we just let him go. I
mean, what do you do? An astronaut probably gets George Clooney’s
character struggles a little better than I do.”

Hadfield’s alleged berating of the film continued unabated. During one
crucial and deathly silent scene involving Sandra Bullock’s character’s
desperate attempt to reach her vessel and avoid dying in the void of
space, the man who brought honour and fun to Canadian space exploration
let out a long, piercing, and altogether perfect fart.

Eventually, theatre staff was notified, and the Canadian living legend
was loudly removed from the cinema. Witnesses report that he did not go
quietly. One patron recalled, “The last thing I heard him yelling was,
‘Have you been to space? Because I’ve been to space!’”

“But he’s still a hero, I suppose.”

At press time, Commander Hadfield’s family and friends were really
hoping he never finds out about the 1996 horror classic: Leprechaun In
Space.

Gotta love those Canadians!

(I think I even spelled it properly.)

What does 'unthaw' mean?

I've heard the word 'dethaw' and wondered about it also.

Don't know what it means in Canukistan, but here in America the
beautiful it means refreeze.

That would be my guess. Like in, "Let's go ice fishing, the lake is unthawed!"

Again, stupid or senile?

Sometimes I wonder if it's worth the effort to educate the Johnny H's of this newsgroup.
That old saying "there's none so blind as those who will not see' comes to mind.

Unthaw is to thaw as undo is to do. Get it now dummy?
