It is actually time to get back to sailboats and not the space ships
they are sailing now.
It all started with the "winged keel" and just started getting silly
after that.

I loved the looks of the 12-meter sloops.

Larry was on Charley Rose saying he supports the idea of getting some
of the money out of the sport so they can get back to real sailing.
He said that among other things this is becoming far too dangerous.

If they flip a 12 meter boat, they get wet. You can easily get killed
on one of these behemoths if it goes over.

One crewman was killed in practice. I looked at the boats as they were
towed to the yards after practice one day when I was taking the neighbor
kids fishing. Large, very expensive, fragile boats. When the Emerates
boat stuffed a sponson, look at the damage. 50 mph sail boats. The races
had to be cancelled a few times because of too much wind. As we left town
on Sunday, the race was cancelled as the winds were from the wrong
direction. They were lucky to get into he last race, as we have had bad
winds for a few days. And in the bay, they get even worse.
