I lost interest some years ago when they stopped racing traditional
sailboats and started racing trimarans or whatever the hell those ugly
boats are.

Same here...I believe they are catamarans...that is two hulls.
Way too high tech and I'm sure the cost keeps lots of countries out.
I remember way back when Canada had a contender and the club of record was the same one I sailed out of.

Charley Rose was talking to Ellison a week or two ago and he was
saying the same thing. It is ironic since he was the big bucks guy who
pushed these boats into the space age.
Basically you might as well not even think about it unless you have
$150 million, just for the boat.
Larry was also saying that they took a dangerous sport and made it
deadly.

Gotta admit, though, it's a little more exciting to watch. The TV audience has probably increased.

I'll second that. We were fortunate enough to be in the BVI last
winter at the time of the so called super yacht regatta. There were
a bunch of J boats there and they are awesome to watch.
