Prove it. Oh, wait. You can't. Your cites don't prove it, either. Our
apex predator around here is the hawk.

I can't prove there are coyotes here because I haven't seen any and
neither have any of the literally hundreds of people I know down here.
You are the one claiming there are coyotes in my yard. Prove it.

I bet there are as many coyote attacks on people as feral dog attacks
(not just the family dog that bites someone)

Yes, I am sure there is a database that details coyote attacks.

Did you kill all the bobcats since I left?
They are in St Mary's county.

The only one I ever saw was in our household.

Actually coyotes attack in packs as well as singularly. Ingle dogs here
will take Fifi right off the leash of some dog walker in some areas.
Bigger dogs, etc they pack attack. Big problem in Hollywood Hills for
pets.

Harry is a city boy who recently moved out to the country.
Most of this stuff is foreign to him

That's just plain stupid, Loogy/Scotty.

I've got a map that shows all the boat ramps in the county; none are in
my backyard or immediate neighborhood.

If they "are all over the place," then there would be lots of sightings.
I know lots of people in this county, and none of them has ever
mentioned seeing a coyote.

The land area here is 200+ square miles, not huge, but sizeable. The
sites you provided do not indicate a large population of coyotes.

That first site you listed showed a 43 pound animal that had just been
shot to death by some moron. The article didn't say why the guy shot the
animal. What a brave white hunter he is, eh?

The last site shows an animal in a field in an adjoining county. The
animal looks more like the large foxes we have around here than a
coyote, but the photo isn't sharp enough to tell for sure.

I think you are once again leaping to unsupportable conclusions from a
paucity of facts. No one is denying we have some larger wild mammals in
Maryland, and I am sure there are some coyotes and wolves. But we
haven't seen any here, and we are prepared to see them, what with time
spent outdoors, being surrounded by wooded areas that hold a panoply of
critters, and outdoor cameras and lights.

I wouldn't mind catching and taming a coyote cub. They're pretty animals
and can be trained like dogs.

I thought you were OK with shooting dogs.

Coyotes usually do not travel in packs, nor are they known for attacking
people. Feral dogs out in the forest, on the other hand, are a bit more
than just dogs without homes provided by humans.

If I saw a coyote in the yard or outskirts and he wasn't acting as if he
had rabies, I'd simply wave and let him go about his business. I'd have
no reason to interfere with his seeking a meal or getting back to his
den. Now, if there were a pack of rabid Tea Party types in the yard, I'd
call the sheriff and animal control.

We had a half GSD half Coyote as our dog. My dad got it in San Diego in the early 60's. Best
damn animal ever. He was a mail and he was extremely protective of us.
