Need Help trobleshooting 1989 40hp Merc
I was out on the lake this weekend and my 1989 40hp Merc tiller was
running rougher than a ever, lots of smoke and oil film on the water. It was a no wake lake, so not a lot of RPM's through the day. Upon taking the boat out of the water I noticed a frothy (brownish) oil and water mixture leaking out of the exhaust ports and the water ports. Any ideas? Thanks much, The Fishing Musician |

Two ideas, Water in the gas Leaking water jacketless likely I suppose it could just be a weak cylinder, misfiring for all the usual reasons, filling the exhaust channel with unburned fuel. Start with the garden variety tuneup, plugs, compression, timing, carbs etc. |

The best news is that it could have just been loading up from all the trolling. Sometimes the exhaust water mixes with the exhaust oil and makes that brown mung. Past that I'd say you have a water leak at the exhaust divider. -W "Gfretwell" wrote in message ...
