Aubrey/Maturin movie delayed again....

Wind was blowing a sustained 30-knots or better most of the day today.
Even *if* my beloved boat was't awaiting a hear trasnplant, (any "donors"?) we
would have gone to the movies, anyway.

When it was announced last Spring, "Master and Commander, The Far Side of the
World" was supposed to be a late summer release. Now it looks like November.
The trailer is extremely enticing. It will make more sense to watch them try to
beat around the Horn in the middle of our own winter, anyway. :-)

By the way, today's movie was the decidedly unnautical Mystic River.
Excellent flick, well acted, and the director (Clint Eastwood) does a marvelous
job of utilizing the motion picture medium to tell a compelling and believable
story. One of those tales where you knew there'd be a surprise ending, but in
spite of a group of honest clues I don't think most of the audience suspected
how the situation would resolve itself. If it's too darn windy, cold, or frozen
elsewhere and
you want to take in a good picture while waiting for the Jack Aubrey movie,
check out Mystic River. :-)

....snippage.

It needed that twist to hit home. Although it didn't resolve like a romance
novel, it did have an interesting if slightly uneasy balance. Not a lot of
light moments.

Completely agree with your take on Eastwood's storytelling ability.
Complete suspension of disbelief. Really strong cast, great performances.
Tim Robbins should get a supporting role nomination. Cinematography was
pretty stunning too. And, at two and a half hours, you sure got your
money's worth.

Heavily steeped in working class Buaston. Makes the events of the current
ALCS playoffs that much more believable.

Does that make "Two Thumbs Up" from the left?

I guess so. Isn't there some old bromide about having "two left thumbs"? :-)
