....but...

Is the Pensacola area worth a visit?

There are a lot of promo-priced flights out of Bal'mer in June to
Pensacola, starting at around $210 round trip. I don't recall ever being
out that far in "western" Florida. I assume the beaches are nice, but
what are some of the other "attractions" in that area?

Lots of 'special circumstances' around there. I'd be sure to use the thumb safety a lot.

The alloy or the polymer safety?

There's nothing you'd be interested in.You'd be happier at a Disney
resort hotel. There's some pretty nice camping right on the beach, great
beaches, pretty good fishing, in Destin, Bass pro Shop, Naval Air
Museum. Blue Angels when they are there.

My daughter spent 5 years at UWF there.
The beaches are nice, when you get a bit East or West of the clutter,
there are miles of undeveloped beach and there is also a park at the
Western tip at Ft Pickens.

There is a flight museum at the Navy base and they have an "arty"
community in town.

You are also fairly close to the casinos and blues joints in Biloxi.
New Orleans is just a few hours down I-10.

Thanks. We like nice, uncrowded beaches. Might be nice to combine a trip
to Pensacola for a few days with a trip to NO for a few more days. My
map app sez they are about 210 miles apart.

The casinos are no draw for us, and neither is driving through Mississippi.

I guess college kids think of that as a day trip because they went
over there a lot, it seemed.

A long weekender was a trip to Padre Island or Mexico. ;-)

The good thing is Alabama and Mississippi are pretty narrow on the
Gulf coast. It was just because of a concession of land from Florida
when they were carving out states that they had any Gulf footage at
all. I believe the Spanish had the whole coast as part of Florida, up
to where they ran into the French in Louisiana.
I doubt there was really a border, just a marsh that nobody really
cared that much about.

I knew guys out in college in Kansas who drove that far or farther on a
Friday to date their honeys back home in the western part of the state.

"How far would you go on a date?" The answer was not sexual...typically
it was..."Dodge City." Garden City was considered too far.

I'd like to revisit NO. Haven't been there since Katrina. Louisiana was
always one of my favorite places to visit. Got some aging writer friends
who live in and around NO or Baton Rouge.

If you are a boxing fan, you might seek out Roy Jones Jr's gym and maybe get some tips from a former world champion in a number of weight classes.
