Had a discussion with friends over the weekend on how certain words aren't
pronounced the way they should be in everyday English. Words like leeward, forecastle, mainsail etc. A discussion very similar to this interesting thread here. http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=e....NYU.EDU#link1 I said that windward has been pronounced win--ard or wind--ard. (I pronounce it wind--ward). My hearing is not so great so, am I hearing things or is win-ard or wind-ard an acceptable slurring of this word? Bruce |
