My first exposure to the movie was flipping channels.
I saw them flying in the plane, all seemed very serious. I tuned in just
before the bomb doors opened, Then Slim drops out of the plane riding a
nuclear bomb.
I was quite confused!

It's a near-perfect satire of the right-wing craziness that overtook
this country in the 1950's and 1960's. Great movie.
