TRAILER BEARING WEAR SLEEVES?

In a previous post someone mensioned "stainless steel wear sleeves" to install
on the inner part of the spindle.

I'm looking at replacing 2 axles due to corrosion where the inner wheel bearing
seals contacts the spindle. I've pollished the mating area as best I can, but
(salt) water still gets in frequently requiring new bearings etc.etc.

The idea of a S/S sleeve sounds good, but I've not seen a source or
application.

Any help guys?

Thanks

Mike

I contacted the Tie Down Engineering company (800) 241-1806 and the technician
said that he would send them out to me. Also, in one of the replies to my
posting, I'm told that Bearing Buddies carries this type of sleeve.

Gene, and everyone else who replied-Thanks!
Been messin' around with boats for 25+ years and never came across this
product. Sounds like what I need, as I've put my boat back on the trailer and
given up my slip.
Thanks again

you with them.

They come in sizes from 1.437 to 6.000 and require a minimum of .002
to a maximum of .007 interference fit... thus, machining might not be
necessary..... sales literature says so, but occasionally I have had
to true the surface up so that the sleeve did not assume the egg
shaped surface underneath.

They require a simple installation tool.... it pulls them on and
depending on application in *might* be necessary to alter the
installation tool from stock. I always use "sleeve and bearing
retainer" locktite for extra insurance and as a sealant.

With axles only being about $60-70 It'd better be cheap and REAL easy to
make it worth while.

Just MHO.

Yes, I never account for labor since I do it all myself. G. And
everything is available locally to me, (KC area) so no shipping involved.

Your point is well taken, but probably doesn't account for any needed
shipping, hardware, and labor allotment.

Course, if its time for new springs, too......
