Any boat can have the engine swapped later for a larger motor. However,
cost to swap vs getting the right engine up front is tremendous.

Because no one would have even *heard* the term "Nifty Fifty" unless they
saw one / bought one etc. You don't just "make a mistake" like that. Even I
had to check that name - And I'd well heard of the "Fat Fifty" as that OMC
clam was called in the day.

A newbie also would have never known that the Mercury 45 and the "Classic
50" were the same beast. Unless they read my post made about 15 minutes
before the troll started. And if you had read it - you wouldn't need to ask
questions about the Merc 45/50. I gotcha both ways.

I stand by my call. Too many "coincidences" and impossible "mistakes". And
too large a knowledge swing over too short a period.

All Tony said was that you could swap the motor on any boat later for a
larget motor.
He never said YOU weren't trolling ME - or in anyway validated your posts.

I made the mistake of thinking the motor was a johnson before i got the boat
to the house.
It is indeed a Mercury 45/Classic 50 inline 4-cylinder 2-stroke,
the wife and i went out today for the shakedown cruise and had a blast.
I installed a 10-3/4 by 12 prop with a new torque tab/anode,
the boat planes quickly and runs smooth thru the chop.
Originally there was a steel gas can in the boat which somehow passed some
foreign particles
to carbs causing a loss of power.......after a brief stint trolling with the
the motor that
ran fine except at WOT i tapped the choke switch while revving the motor and
the internal vacuum cleared the jets once again.
The boat now has polypropylene tank w/a new filter.

My post on 10/9 at 8:27pm was actually the start of it. Soon after came the
question about the "Nifty Fifty", I can't tell exactly what time his came in
(because his timestamps are screwed up) but I 1st responded to it at
8:53pm - so that gives us an idea when it came in.

The poster, having seen my "rant" about the Merc 44ci motor thought he'd get
playfull and see what I had to say about the OMC "Nifty Fifty" AKA the "Fat
Fifty". See, any good outboard historian could tell you there was a gulf of
performance difference between the two. Once I equated the 2 names and made
the call - he suddenly appears with a 44ci Merc? And knows all the lingo
about switchboxes, triggers etc etc... ? heh

Smells like fish to me.......... Also note that all the newgroup saavy
regulars didn't jump down my throat for apparantly beating up a newbie.
That's because anyone who followed along from the beginning could smell the
fish too.
