Living aboard in a northern clime really sucks regardless of the boat
except for the 3 or 4 months of decent weather in the summer. One of
our lessons learned from taking the boat north is to not arrive in
New England before mid-June and to be back in the Chesapeake headed
south by mid to late September.

We always enjoyed pretty good boating weather in Connecticut from May
through about the middle of October, five to five and a half months,
"mileage" varying. One of my school chums who was a competitive small
sailboat racer used to get started with practice in April.

===

We used to start practicing in April also since the first weekend of
racing was typically the American Yacht Club Spring Series in Rye, NY
beginning first weekend in May. The weather was always very
inconsistent however, ranging from near gale force winds and rain to
sunny flat calms, and decidedly on the cool side at night.

You're not likely to get consistently good boating weather until the 4th
of July and it's on its last legs by labor day. You need to venture much
further South if you wish to enjoy boating 6 to 8 months out of the
year. I am astonished by the number of you Yanks that waste so much of
your liquid and perhaps not so liquid assets on boating. They should
teach economics in college.

Have you looked behind the wheel?

Yeah, the wheel is attached to a beautiful wood cabinet. The cabinet has
access doors so the electronics can be accessed.

That would be in front of the wheel, idiot.

Some of the best boating I've ever done was on Long Island Sound in
Septermber and October but you can't depend on it - great weather
one day and driving, wind driven rain the next.

Isn't Oscar the boating "expert" who can't get his dinghy to plane?

One in the same. Didn't say I needed it to plane. I did/do have some
concerns that are in the process of being resolved.

If I ever need advice on who to go to to get a cheap shrinkwrap job, I
might solicit your advice. Otherwise, you know squat about boating.
