Not today, just got back from two weeks of cruising and fishing the
Florida Keys in our old, slow boat. * It was awful as you can imagine
although I'd have to admit, under duress, that the boat is pretty darn
comfortable and well suited to living aboard.
.
One of the worst things about cruising is the interesting people you
meet and the cool places you discover. * Wish I was back there right
now trying once again to catch a tarpon. * One of the frustrating
things about tarpon fishing is that they are huge and easy to see,
especially in the crystal clear water of the Keys. * *My wife says I
should hire a professional guide and one of my sons has offered to pay
for it. * Seems like cheating to me.

For about six weeks in the summer, NE Florida has tarpon close to shore
and in the ICW in some of the lagoons. I caught a few in the seaplane
lagoon of the St. Augustine airport, not far from where we lived. Big
tarpon, although I never caught or saw one that looked as large as the
100-pounders you sometimes see on the "guide" TV shows. I actually
wasn't trying to catch them...the lagoon was more well-known as a haunt
of flounder and sea trout and redfish...

A night or two aboard is enough for us, although we are planning a trip
to Albemarle Sound and environs. Very slight chance of running up to
Milford after Labor Day for my big high school reunion, probably will
take the interstate. Still hurricane season then.

Lo9oking good Harry!

Back in 1958, this was the largest non-nuclear explosion in history.

Rocks were thrown 1,000 feet into the air. The vaporized water became
an instant cloud. Over 300 tons of underwater mountaintops were
removed to improve passage through Seymour Narrows.

Great to see you Chuck! come around more often. We need the boating
posts!

Yes indeed.

And as a side benefit of participating in the group you get Tim's
expertise with 12 volt electrical issues of all sorts, several of us
who are active boaters in south western Florida and elsewhere, and a
couple of others who chime in from time to time. We need to
reestablish a critical mass of boating related posts in order to drown
out the other BS.

How are those new engines working out that you installed a few years
ago?

For those who might be new to the group, Chuck is a veritable expert
on boating in the Pacific Northwest, and has given generously of his
time and talent in the past.

Got any *interesting* boating posts, w'hine?

What a ****ing asshat..

Hey, at least you had a terrible time, maybe harry won't be so jealous
and won't act like an asshat... Oh wait, sorry... Anyway, great post,
almost. Funny anyway, later...
