So you land your plane at the local runway...

....and have them replace the wheels with floats, so you can go fishing and talk to folks on
rec.boats with some authority.

But, how do you take off?

They didn't replace the wheels it was always a float plane and landed on
land for it's maintenance.

The plane obviously is equipped with amphibious floats. They have
wheels that stow inside the float for landing on water.

I didn't post the link. John did. I simply, and it's true, stated that
they didn't replace the wheels, it was always a float plane. They
routinely land them in grass to do maintenance but usually they are near
enough to water that they can be towed to the water.
