Sad news...Jose Wejebe dies in single engine plane crash

Sad news…Wejebe was a great guy.

The host of a popular fishing TV show was killed Friday afternoon when
his single-engine plane crashed in Everglades City.

Jose Wejebe, who hosted Spanish Fly, a sal****er fishing show on the
Outdoor Channel and formerly ESPN, died when his kit plane plummeted
into a field near the runway shortly after take-off from Everglades
Airpark. Wejebe is the registered owner of the plane, according to FAA
records.

Cuba-born Wejebe was known for his extensive travels chasing big fish,
which took him from the Gulf of Mexico to the Galapagos.

His ex-wife, Lynne Calero, confirmed that Wejebe died in the crash.

I hate that. I really liked him and he was a class act. He was very
active in charities and getting kids and others interested in fishing.

That airplane looks like more than the average person could handle.

The phrase "kit plane" is interesting. It certainly was an unusual
looking private plane, not that I'm knowledgeable in that area.

Yes, it looks like an aerobatic machine. short, tight, and made for
high performance flying.

But to me that's what it *looks* like.

I thought that too but...it has a lot of windows behind the "driver's
seat," and that's not typical for a single-engine aerobatic plane, is it?

That's true. I didn't catch that. good call, Harry. The plane must be
bigger than I thought.

That plane didn't seem to have the lines of an aerobatic plane. But I
don't have the link to look at the picture again. IIRC from this morning
seeing the pic, it's long and sleek, wings made for forward speed, not
as much control for tricks or whatever... But whatever... I might have
to look at the pic again.
