My dad purchased an outboard thinking that it would be easier to service. All it did was raise the price of parts. My question was "what is so amazing about an outboard engine"? Over 500HP from one OB motor is amazing. Sure it's expensive as hell, and the company may not last to honor warranties, but it's still an interesting design. |

You can get it painted to match... There really isn't anything special about it other than you can get it painted to match anything you want and you could hang 4 of the off the ass end of some boat and have a $300K of motors on a $150K boat. There is a guy in the UK who has a 90 MPH inflatable boat with eight 250 hp outboards. Cross Channel smuggling is what he does. You can make a good living on cigs and booze and not risk the heavy time for drugs and guns. Casady I'm sure they will see some buyers for that use. |

They are just trying to supplement their meager social security checks. Perhaps some heavy fines and jail time will cut down on the smuggling. I'd also favor tripling the amount of cigarette taxes imposed and collected, and raising the taxes regularly until the entire tobacco industry is driven out of business. The world would smell better. Anti-gun proponents would say the same about ammunition. |

Besides, the city was losing tax money - money that could have gone into the pockets of some of the city councilmen. The liquor license is a very valuable thing. Nobody in DC was going to threaten a high volume dealer who was pumping extra tax money in the DC coffers from Maryland and Va customers. DC always had a contentious relationship with Md and Va anyway because the suburban DMVs would not go after people with DC parking tickets. They didn't even have reciprocity with moving violations when I was there I was revoked in DC and Md never knew it. I thought the difference in taxes was reduced years ago and this was a less attractive thing to do ... or did Md and Va raise their taxes again? I know bringing cigarettes up from North Carolina used to be a popular thing to do. I did some price checking for booze between Montgomery County and Fairfax County a couple of years ago. It was all over the place. Some things were cheaper and some things weren't. The one thing that was different was wine costs and wine selection in Fairfax county. Since everything in Montgomery county, alcohol wise, is bought through the county your selection is limited. Fairfax has a wider selection of wines and at much better prices. I don't smoke any more and I don't buy smokes for my wife either so I can't talk about the costs of tobacco. |
