Maybe it wasn't as dramatic or dangerous as military service but a lot of us did spend the best part of our lives there. Of course we were thanked from time to time in departmental dinners, gatherings etc but my 25th year celebration stands out... I still have the plaque and the portable stereo we were presented with and then on my retirement dinner, although I asked that they didn't make a fuss or strong arm contributions from my fellow workers for a gift. Judging by the cards and gifts they either liked me or were happy to see me go. ;-) So...thank you for thanking me. |

Maybe it wasn't as dramatic or dangerous *as military service but a lot of us did spend the best part of our lives there. *Of course we were thanked from time to time in departmental dinners, gatherings etc but my 25th year celebration stands out... I still have the plaque and the portable stereo we were presented with and then on my retirement dinner, although I asked that they didn't make a fuss or strong arm contributions from my fellow workers for a gift. It's usually true that government workers receive at least a fair day's pay for an honest day's work, respect on the job, and an opportunity to advance - if they are inclined to do the work.
