If they can make the battery last a lot longer, for the price of lead

All the same could be said of portable power drills.

Good point. You notice drills usually come with a spare battery and
when the batteries stop holding a charge, people usually throw away
the drill

They do? I send the battery packs out to be rebuilt. Last time I
checked, it was about half the cost of a new, OEM battery pack,
including shipping. Why toss a perfectly good power tool because it
needs a fresh battery pack?

It is true. I know you can get cheap batteries online or get your
packs rebuilt but your average guy just goes to Home Depot, sees the
batteries cost as much as the drill and they buy a new one.

This conversation goes on over at alt.home.repair all the time.

My last rebuild was about 60% the cost and lasted about 1/2 the time
original battery did.

I bought 2 new batteries for my Makita online that are more powerful
than the OEM and cost $30 each.

Who and website. I can not believe the price on new driver-drills. I think
the replacement for my DeWalt is more expensive than the kit I bought 8
years ago. My drill is about wore out, so am looking at new. Would
consider a Hilti, but have portable saw and flashlight that use the dewalt
batts which I really like.
