Orbit sugar-free gum...
....contains Xylitol. This stuff is bad news for dogs.
http://vetmedicine.about.com/od/toxi...ylitol_tox.htm Last night I found an empty Orbit box on the floor. I had just opened it earlier and left it on the table. The new pup had jumped on a chair and gotten the package. She then ate about twelve pieces, paper and all. This morning I picked her up from the emergency room where she'd been 'flushed'. That was a $550 lesson. Live and learn. I, of course, realize that most here are way too bright to ever do such a thing. |

Cost us 60 bucks to have the vet give her a shot that made her puke it all back up... I don't remember if he sedated her first or not. |

My dogs can lay on the floor next to a turkey sandwich and never even realize it's something to eat, much less touch it. Just sayin'. When you train a puppy, remember anything you train him to do (like eat people food), he will do when he get's older.... |

I will note that in another post I talk about how my dogs don't eat people food. I should be clear that the dog I am refering to in the above post was given to me when she was already about 5 years old... |

We have none that are poisonous to cats, but a couple of the plants make them upchuck. I don't think any of them would "go for" a pack of gum, but one of them definitely likes small green olives with pimentos. Glad your dog survived. |

I can not stand it at the track or a party, house, neighbor etc when you have to hold your food up and keep turning away from someones begging dog... We had house guests once and their dog wanted to reach right up on the table and stood there while you were cooking expecting to be fed from the stove and the table... Had to put my foot down and tell him the dog stayed next door when we were eating. |

Every time he wants a treat he hovers over the food bos and looks at us. He sits when we give it to him. He drops it until we walk away before picking it up and eating it. If he is hungry he points or other wise indicates the direction of the food box and pops his mouth a little bit. His idea of play is getting us to chase his toys. Tell him to go get them and he plays dumb. When we brought our Daughter's cats to care for a while, he went searching and found one of his toys and dropped in front of the Cats. It was fascinating seeing him try to get them to play. |

The cat would get on the ottoman, it's favorite place next to my lap, and the dog would try to get up there with it. The cat, declawed in the front, would just bat the hell out of the dog's face. Had the dog afraid of it for a couple months. Now they both realize it's a game and have a great time - until the cat gets tired. He has a way of calling it off. |
