The "coup" was the repeal of the equal time rule, then the SCOTUS
decision that money was speech and that was driven home by the
Citizens United decision that said corporations were people.
As long as government is for sale to the highest bidder, rich people
will run the government. Congress could fix this tomorrow but they are
unwilling to give up the money and you are never going to hear
anything bad about this system from the media because ultimately the
money goes to them.
As for the cops, they think they are part of the 1% because the union
takes very good care of them ... as long as they take very good care
of the politicians who sit on the other side of the bargaining table.
Of course the union hand picks the politicians so the circle shall not
be broken.
This process has been in play for decades. The SCOTUS decision was
just another milestone on the path. Corporations can manipulate the
system with impunity because they know no one will go after them. They
just threaten to move more business offshore or fund the political
opponent and there it is. Game over.
It's time we the people short circuited this growing fascism.
Did you enjoy the bit about how Charley Rangel and others trying to
come and sympathize with the OWS? Turned away. They have no vehicle
to and no means to attach themselves. No political affiliations.
This is about the state of the union, not a political stance. As long
as the protest stay violence free, the brown shirts (in blue) cannot
justfiably break the gathering.
I hope this effort continues forward. It took a long time for the
Pentagon and the White House to recognize the seriousness of the
anti-Vietnam movement but it eventually created change.
