boating rant.

Went boating and fishing at Lake San Antonio for a few days. Is near San
Luis Obispo, Ca. A few striper boils (striped bass feeding frenzies) but
rain and a cold front that arrived when I did shut down most of the bites.
But nice lake, lots of deer running around and one wild boar seen at night.
Wild pig hunting allowed on Fort Hunter Liggett next door. My rant is
butthead drivers on the road. Enter the freeway at 45 mph and decide to
speed up after they have merged on to the highway and maybe even in to the
next lane. 65-70 mph limit roads and I am required to tow 55 mph. Can't a
frigg'n Bimmer or Mercedes decide they do not have the ultimate right of way
and merge in to the freeway at freeway speeds? We have nice long onramps
here in California.

Even after 60 years of limited access highways there are still a lot
of people who do not know how to do a clean merge into moving traffic.
It should be part of the test for a driver's license in my opinion.

Agreed, but it isn't always the persons fault in a merge lane. You can
get those idiots that see you moving for the gap on a clean merge and
then they gun it to close the gap....like the narcissistic self import
SOBs they are. Some cities and regions worse than others.

That was the only good thing I can say about Beltway traffic in the
70s and early 80s. People didn't have any trouble merging ...
unless we got some yokel from out of town.

It was a thing of beauty watching some of those exits when you were
coming off a hill where you get a good view, Cars were exiting and
entering like cogs on a gear and all at 65-70.

All it took was one guy to stop and "wait for an opening" all hell
broke loose tho.

65 MPH in bumper to bumper traffic scares the hell out of out-of-
towners.

Something about folks here... They always speed up when they see you are
trying to merge. I had a guy last week from Prime Plumbing in Newington
CT. who was a total asshole. He saw I was in a hurry so he stuck his big
deisel in front of me. So I went to pass and he came over. I went to the
right and he pulled over again in front of me and squeezed me out for no
other reason than, well I dunno' maybe he saw my pony tail and was
trying to impress me, but he didn't know I don't roll that way;)

Try 80... That is the normal traveling speed from 84 east to Hartford,
and down route 9 to the shoreline. As long as everyone plays nice, the
cops don't seem to notice, or care...

Interesting choice of language, eh?

"...total asshole..."
"...stuck his big deisel (sic) in front of me..."
"...he came over..."
"...squeezed me out..."
"...he saw my ponytail..."

Pussies

Try that speed on some of the new ramps in the Springfield-Alexandria
area, and you'll be in low earth orbit.
