Our local paddling club would like to coordinate some whitewater safety and
rescue training for local volunteer fire companies. Does anyone have
suggestions regarding whom to contact or how you would go about arranging this?

Depends on what you want and where you are located. You can contact the
American Canoe Association at acanet.org and talk to Sherri. She can give you
the
name of all the SWR instructors in the area. However, this course is aimed at
the paddling community instead of the professional rescuer, but it is a lot
better than no training. The DOT standard for the professional rescuers is
Swift Water Rescue Techician course like given by Rescue 3. This course are a
bit on the pricey side.

Some states have decent SWR training available through the DNR usually. Ohio
has a top notch program and is one of the innovators in Dam rescue. Indiana has
a good program too.

Larry (who is also an ACA SWR instructor)

Sure. Call the Fire Chief.

Seriously, though: contact Charlie Walbridge. He lives a little more
than an hour from you in Bruceton Mills, WV. If he cannot do it, he
can give you a whole list of ACA-certified Swif****er Safety and
Rescue instructors.

Nothing really matters except Boats, Sex, and Rock'n'Roll.

OK, OK; computer programming for scientific research also matters.

You could sign up for guide training with a professional outfitter.
