Gear oil question (lower unit)

I got a Mercury 15 HP 1999, I want to change oil of the lower gear unit. But
I am not sure which oil to buy, because there are SAE-90, Type C, etc.when
I went to a local automotive store. which one should I buy? I lost the
owner's manual.. please help.

It is basically 90w but the oil sold for lower ends is supposed to have more
additives to deal with water intrusion. Since the price is competitive, why not
just buy lower end lub? The various "X" marts usually sell the Lubrimatic and
Penzoil types.

Another vote for this idea. Don't dick around trying to save money or a trip
to a store that sells the right stuff. New motor: $1700-$2000. Do it right.

Super Tech is a Quaker State product. Should be OK or better...

Yeah, but he seemed to be wondering if any old oil of the right weight would
do the trick. Seems like an idea that should be crushed before he screws up
his motor.
