Default New Zealand query

Due to a confluence of unexpected circumstances, I'm going to find
myself wandering around New Zealand sometime in the November/December
timeframe.

I'll be on both the North and South Islands and I'd hate myself if I
didn't at least try to go boating while I'm halfway around the world.

Does anyone have any suggestions for commercial outfitters/guide
companies from whom I could either rent equipment or guides?

Can anyone speak to the availability of Wavesport Y's in New Zealand?
How much of my own XXL gear should I bring (considering that I'd have
to haul it around for as much as 6 weeks) or would I likely be able to
rent all that I need? In particular, would I be hating the world
without my drysuit? Or would my drytop be sufficient?

Thanks for any info...

mikel

Mick Hopkinson in Murchinson is your best bet for the gear on the South
Island and also some great courses if you want to go that way. Anything
from white water skills to heliboating guided trips on the west coast.
