Fuel consumption / mile 34' 1989 Sundancer w/454's

Anyone with info on fuel consumption / cruising range for a 1989 34'
Searay Sundancer with twin 454's, closed cooling system? Am
considering purchasing one that's in good condition but am a little
bit concerned with cruising range with 170 gallon tank.
TIA, Tony

I'll bet that thing guzzles gas, at any speed. Small tank to boot, for
2 big blocks. Find something with Diesel power.

At that age, the transom is probably soft, too.

A reasonable guess is that you would burn about 35 GPH at your optimal
cruising speed - maybe 20 knots. That would get you a little over 100
statute miles for the $740 you will spend to fill that tank. I would
look for diesels in a boat that size and you could see a gain of 25%, or
more, in fuel economy and spend over 5% less on fuel. Off-road diesel
is currently $4.04/gallon here. Ethanol-free 92 octane gasoline is
$4.35 at the docks.

My previous cruising/fishing boat was a Bertram 33 with twin 454s. It
burned 35 to 40 gallons per hour, approximately 2 gallons per mile.

If you go easy on the RPMs and find the spot where it's just on a
plane and trimmed properly (don't know if what you're looking at has
trim tabs) you can probably get close to 1 mile per gallon. That's
going to be somewhere between 2500 and 2800 rpm.

You dare not open the secondaries since that's an invitation to
bankruptcy.
