Pirates and Preachers
I think the U.S. Navy acted appropriately in the tragic incident
that resulted in the deaths of Dr. Bob Riggle, Phyllis Macay and Jean and Scott Adam at the hands of Somali pirates. Caution has to be Job One so long as there is a chance at least some hostages might be freed. The Navy was watching and it was cautious. From what I have read, we don't know what event(s) precipitated the shooting of the hostages by the pirates. Whatever penalties they were facing surely weren't as severe as what happened after they murdered their hostages. The areas in which these pirates operate is enormous. Obviously, more countries need to participate in patrol and interdiction. |

There isn't enough military interdiction knowhow in this newsgroup to stop a Brownie troop from crossing from one side to another of a school playground. If you have a *workable* idea that will stop the piracy, Bertie-Birther, let's see it. I've already suggested that the solution may be in more countries volunteering more assets so that a much larger area of the oceans there can be properly patrolled. Hell, our Navy isn't doing anything these days. Keep some assets on the North Korea watch and ship the rest over to where they might do something useful. Bill the seafaring countries of the world for the costs. |
