How come you can't refine your own gasoline?

a kid in Connecticut, you could get a refund on road taxes for gas
used in your boat. My dad gave specially printed receipt books to his
customers...they filled them out and sent them in for the refund. I
sorta recall the gas station operator had to sign and stamp the
receipts, but maybe not.

This was when gasoline was 20 cents a gallon at the local gas station,
and a nickel more at the marina.

We used to have the 'marked' (dyed) gas here for commercial
fishermen. I haven't heard about that in years.

I used to haul " Cracking Dust " back from the Coastal Eagle Refinery
in Jersey. They use it to make Portland Cement in Beachville, near
Woodstock, Ontario.

It's an interesting idea but I think you'll find that the complexities
and costs will make it impractical. * The big refineries spend a lot
of money on safety and process control but they get to spread the
investment over huge quantities. *It would make a great magazine
article for one of the DIY publications however.

I think the home made fuel will be the biodiesel. My wife's
electrician gets all of the cooking oil from the club (along with the
other clubs he works at) and makes his own fuel.

I have a customer who does that and he takes it very seriously and has
got it down to a science to the opoint of making specific
modifications to his 6.5 GM diesel Pickup. It does take some time to
'refine' the used cooking oil, but he figures he's running at about $.
75 a gallon.

How come you can't refine your own gasoline?

concerning the small quanity refining, your probably right Wayne, ,
but it would be neat to see something published in Popular Mechanics/
Science, or even Mother Earth News...

Then have a coundown on the DIYr's who blew themselves up or caught
half their town on fire while blowing themselves up....
