The Russians actually had some great ideas about weapons systems. Their
jets, weapons, etc. were built for harsh conditions and poorly trained
technicians with lack of spare parts. And the AK-47 is a derivative of
the German MP40 machine pistol.

I know a bit about the Russians' small arms, but next to nothing about
their larger weapons systems. I wonder who made the comment about what
he believes is my "admiration" for the Russian military, since I said
nothing about it, and commented specifically only about the Czech small
arms marketed under the "CZ" name.

Well, this isn't a newsgroup known for careful readers or educated
readers. I suppose to those folks. the "former Sov states" means Russian
military,

You really haven't got a clue as to how the Russian's operated through
the cold war.
