Nov 15-18: Another three days of sturgeon fishing from Rio Vista toSuisun Bay
 

The weather and tides cooperated to produce three near-perfect days
for sturgeon fishing, so I headed to Rio Vista aboard the motor home
with the boat in tow to try yet again to break my sturgeon slump.

Monday was a bit breezy so I fished locally, near Light 25. I caught
nothing but an endless flow of aquatic weeds that I spent much of the
day removing from my line.

Tuesday I joined the chaos at Chain Island for eight hours - for nary
a nibble. But it was a flat calm, perfect day to get skunked yet
again. And so I did! At one point I counted 44 boats within view of my
anchorage.

But on Wednesday, another perfect day, my old fishing buddy, Willie,
joined me. He promised to bring some luck with him. And he did.

We cruised the twenty some miles down to my honey hole on Suisun Bay
and found the bay to be perfect in every way - including a bit of
sturgeon activity.

I wound up with about a 36" shaker and then... a somewhat bigger one
that fought its little heart out - for all of five minutes. He loved
going deep under the boat and tried to wrap the line around the
outboard - but we had already raised it.

I finally got him in the boat for an accurate measure and he turned
out to be a couple of inches short at 44" - so he, too, was released
for another day. But I figure two shakers means my slump is over.

We used only eel for bait, as usual.
