My winter body clock is kicking in.
 

We switch from CST to Daylight Savings Time, tonight. ie you get to
set the clocks back and take an extra hr. snoozer, but not for me,
this means I'll be getting up an hr. earlier. You gotta love it.

Soon it will be get up in the dark go to work in the dark come home in
the dark.

I feel like hibernating.

It just got cold here. Wednesday it was 86, today it was 65. I think
we will be warmed up again next week. The only good news is we get
nice sunsets on our evening cruise. Bad news, my wife is bundled up
like an eskimo.

When I was in DC working days, the worst day if the year was that
first Monday after the time change when I topped the hill at New
Hampshire Avenue (Eastbound) on the beltway and saw 2 miles of tail
lights in the dark. It didn't seem as bad when the sun was up.

Traffic was one of the biggest factors in getting me on midnights for
the last 11 years I lived there. At least when I topped that hill the
line of slowed to stopped cars was coming towards me and I was doing
some illegal speed going the other way.


I take the commuter bus when I go into DC. About an hour, the driver
deals with the hassles, and it only costs $3.75 each way. The bus route
in DC stops at a number of places, starting with the Library of Congress
and ending up at the end of K Street, nearest Georgetown. Seven buses
each way from early to late rush.

For me, the worst month here always seems to be February. It's dark,
cold, and snowy.

Yep, and that's when business is the worst at least for me. From about
Jan 30 to March 15, I may as well shut the doors 'case nothing else
is going on.

But the coffee shop's are always busy.

Ah, retirement is such a joy. I feel for the poor souls on their way to the
beltway or downtown passing me as I walk my dog in the morning.

I used to drive home through town if I found myself at GEICO or
somewhere else inside the beltway.

I enjoyed a nice walk on Haines Point or through the Smithsonian as a
way to decompress after a hard night. I pretty much stayed south of
Independence Avenue.
I missed "Palm 90" by about 15 minutes or you might have seen me in
TV. I drove right by there. It was on TV when I got home.
I had 4 boat cushions, 50 feet of rope and a wool blanket in my truck
that might have been of some help.

A quick nine holes at Haines Point would have been just the ticket.

The only improvement in traffic flow I've noticed is that the beltway in
your area is better *sometimes* because of the new bridge over the
potomac and the springfield beltway-I-95 overpasses. And that's only
better sometimes.
