Not a boat discussion group?

A discussion group site listed rec.boats as a place to talk about boats.

Doesn't seem to be a lot of that here or is the season over for everyone?

Pretty much, but with the economy, even the most prolific boaters spent
little time on the water this year. I will not name names but if you
stick around for a day or so you will see probably 50 unanswered attack
posts from basically three posters and one brave spoofer who is trying
to keep them occupied so the rest can have civil conversation. Just
filter the first 4 posters to throw wild accusations around, and you
will be just fine within about 24 hours.

Again though, we tend to talk about guitars, racin', boats, cooking,
photography to fill in the spaces between our boating outings. Think of
it more like a dockside bar and grill, choose the clique you want to be
associated with and join in. If you get by the bull**** there are some
veeeeeeery knowledgeable boaters here, some active, some, uh, "retired"
as it were... but still knowledgeable..

In your honor I will replace my usually abrasive, politically charged
sig file, for one of my kids race team sigs;) Now it's up to you to make
a boating post, we are eagerly waiting...

OIC.

The season will end soon for me. I boat in Long Island Sound. It is in
the middle 50's today, but there is a brisk breeze and when I took a
look from Shore Drive saw whitecaps outside Branford Harbor at the R34
Cow & Calf buoy, which was about as far out as I could see with my
little binocs.

Well, a lot of us are in the same boat. I am about 60 miles north of
you just outside Hartford right now and I have a place in Essex too. I
built boats for about 15 years and sold them from my home there.
(smallboats.com) Been a bit away from the boating community for the
last two years working with a young athelete in the family, kind of
ties up all of your time as you may or may not know. A less frequent
visitor who has somewhat moved away because of the bs here is Tom, who
is out in Woodstock CT, with boats here and down in SC, Dick another
in the same "boat" snicker is Dick who is right over the border in
RI. Tim posts a lot here and boats still, in fact he is still
modifying a couple of nice river boats is out in Ohio. Wayne just did
a great trip to the islands on his er, oh God, I am having a mental
block, big sweet boat, sending constant updates and providing a site
so we could follow him by GPS. Greg in Fla does a bunch of boating in
the winter, and there are posters in Cal and other states...

However, as you have noticed, there is a lot of noise and I will tell
you right now, I am not innocent by any stretch. Let me reiterate, I
am known to lash out pretty hard when attacked, and there are folks
here who probaly have or should have me filtered too;) It's up to you
what you take from this group. Some come for attention, some come to
flex their internet balls, and some even come just to fight with
them;) And then there are a few and hopefully one more with you who
come because over the years some of us have gotten to know each other
pretty well and we like to chit chat, go fishin', give advice, tell
jokes, let off steam and even have serious debate over politically
charged issues without name calling, etc... You can filter those who
are only destructive, or you can ignore them.. You can also address
them if you wish but trust me, you are not going to change them.

A good place to start is what boat do you have? What do you do with
it? Do you have stories and pics? On the other hand, if your kid just
won the state championship, or even came in last with a good effort,
or you just found that 1961 VW Microbus you have been looking for
since you loand that girl your first one in 74, bring it on...

Branford is a great town and harbor, been there many times in my past
life as a Long Island Sound sail boater. There are still some
knowledgable guys here but the noise to signal ratio has gotten very
high.

So what kinds of boats and boating are you interested in?

Cow& *Calf buoy, which was about as far out as I could see with my
little binocs.- Hide quoted text -

Well, a lot of us are in the same boat. I am about 60 miles north of
you just outside Hartford right now and I have a place in Essex too. I
built boats for about 15 years and sold them from my home there.
(smallboats.com) Been a bit away from the boating community for the
last two years working with a young athelete in the family, kind of
ties up all of your time as you may or may not know. A less frequent
visitor who has somewhat moved away because of the bs here is Tom, who
is out in Woodstock CT, with boats here and down in SC, Dick another
in the same "boat"snicker *is Dick who is right over the border in

*On the other hand, if your kid just
won the state championship, or even came in last with a good effort,
or you just found that 1961 VW Microbus you have been looking for
since you loand that girl your first one in 74, bring it on...

Tosk, aka Scotty from SmallBoats.com

I have two boats at the present time. My favorite is a Century Resorter
from the 1960's, nicely restored, that we keep at a friend's boathouse
up on Lake Zoar. It's on a lift and we use it carefully to toot around
the lake.

The other boat is much newer and I use it for fishing and cruising
around LI Sound.

Good to have you Paul. Nice to see a we3lcomed boating thread for
once. Yes, I'm in S. Illinios and I've put my boats away for the
winter. There's still some nice days to go out, but we've lacked so
much rain that the rivers and lakes around me are geting really low.
So, I figured that by the time the rain[s] in my area start in, the
water wand weather will be much cooler and that takes the fun away
from me.

But keep the boating discussions coming. it's like a breath of fresh
air.

Spoofing, by definition, is a "situation in which one person or program

of the spoofers, trying to save life as we know it, is offended by you they
will falsify their identity and, say, become you, posting all sorts of stuff

You aren't kidding, spoofer. An exterminator would eliminate vermin that
think that just because someone isn't of their political ilk they are
stupid, assholes, etc. An exterminator would get rid of vermin that have
nothing but name calling and insulting (see your diatribe above). An

follow YOU around like a puppy and ferret out typos.

Unfortunately, rec.boats has had a professional troll/shill for over a
decade. The guy has been known to post up to 100 attack and political,
crossposted rants in one 24 hour period. Over the years several attempts
have been made to quell the activity with spoofing being the most
effective so far. If you notice, it's only one poster who is spoofed,
probably the same one complaining about it even though he posts under
several socks, including the one you are responding to above... Take it
for what it's worth.. Welcome to one wild sandbox. ;)

I guess annoying posters are in the mind of the beholder. There are at
least three or four who are "spoofing" and otherwise behaving like
little boys as far as I can tell, and seem to do it only to get a rise
out of each other. Like I posted before, straight out of grammar school.

Too bad this isn't a moderated usenet group. The troublemakers would be
banished to somewhere else.

I'm going up to Lake Zoar over the weekend to lower my boat into the
water, onto a trailer, and into a storage building for the winter, with
a little engine winterization tossed in for good measure. That boat
winters more comfortably than I do!

a little engine winterization tossed in for good measure. That boat
winters more comfortably than I do!

Just make sure you stay away from flim-flam Ingersoll, the Internet
tough guy.

I don't see any substantive difference between Ingerfool, Loogy, Flajim
or the rest of the twerpy little assholes that pollute this newsgroup.
As much as I dislike herring, at least he has a boat.

This is a perfect example of what you come here to do...
You know Loogie has a boat
You know Jim has a boat
You know I have several
You said you had John filtered
You said "I" was the only one of us you read...

Either way Harry, burn your own bridges here...;)

I am not aware that loogy or flajim have boats. I know you have or had a
rowboat rotting in your yard somewhere, but even if you have a boat, you
don't use it.

No one is aware that you have a boat, either spoofer.

Why do you suppose he needs to know?

I'm the real Harry, and I post from a PC or a MAC, as virtually everyone knows.
If a post is attributed to me, and it isn't from a PC or a MAC, it's from an ID
spoofer who hasn't the balls to post with his current ID.

The proud owner of a 37 feets something or other. The new limo liberal standard in boating.

Spoofed? What do you mean by spoofed?

Spoofing, by definition, is a "situation in which one person or program
successfully masquerades as another by falsifying data." So, simply, if one
of the spoofers, trying to save life as we know it, is offended by you they
will falsify their identity and, say, become you, posting all sorts of stuff
you would not post.

You have to closely monitor headers to even figure out who you are actually
posting to.

Jesus, that's right out of grammar school. Sounds like rec.boats should
hire a hall monitor. :)

Rowboats DON'T class as "owning " a Boat, dork. Stick to the facts
that you are a lying, useless, hateful little shrimp of a man, who is
also a coward by trade. That, and the fact you make death threats,
then hide under your desk, wearing your Wifes panties when
confronted.....
