As a private organization that is blatantly discriminatory, the Boy Scouts should not receive any public funding, nor should they be able to use any public facilities, nor should any public officials have anything to do with them. It's sad for me to say that, because I was a cub scout, boy scout and sea scout for many years in the good old days, and I enjoyed our activities. I suppose it is simply because they don't want to endure a "priest" type scandal. LOL |

So they won't allow you to be a Troupleader now, huh? As a private organization that has broken no laws, they are part of the public, and can make use of anything the public has access to. They have been repeatedly supported by the US government. In fact, your own messiah supports them: "In January 2009, the American Humanist Association and eighteen other nontheistic organizations sent an open letter to then President-Elect Obama urging him not to serve as the Boy Scouts' honorary president because of the Scouts' positions on religion. Obama accepted the position and received the BSA's annual report from a group of Scouts in February 2009." Too bad all this makes you even more nuts. It warms my heart to churn up garbage like you in my wake. Things are as I want them. You're the one whining. It's obvious with the speed and quantity of your responses in this thread that you are the one "churned up", old boy. :- From the time posts, it looks like you're about even with him as far as response time goes. Perhaps you just like making things up and calling them facts. BOZO |

It may be backward thinking in the 21st century but I bet more than half of the parents agree with the policy. The scouts are struggling to survive and they simply reflect the values of their target demographic. Public funding is a separate issue but the government funds a lot of things we find unacceptable on some level. A lot of people think churches should pay taxes. The recent document dump says we are funding the Taliban. Do the boy scouts have a policy against child molesters? I suspect what they want to prevent is child molestation, and that sort of activity typically is not the kind of "fun" gay men prefer. I can just hear the right-wing trash exclaim after some molester is arrested for buggering Boy Scouts, "Well, at least he wasn't gay." Doesn't the fact that a man pursues other males of any age make them gay? There's a huge difference in the eyes of the law. One is called a pedophile, the other isn't. I do understand the difference between consenting adults and children but the perception is still out there. There's a perception that the Earth is flat, but that isn't born out by the facts. Personally I do not have an opinion on this but I do understand what other people think. The majority of people in the US believe that gays should have the same rights as straights. Would you care at all if the BSA was not taking public funds? I would care just as much as I care about other large organizations who possibly discriminate. I would certainly care more if they use public facilities. |
