That's a gutsy swim. When I was a kid, I used to enter the Milford Cross
Harbor Swim every summer. It was only about a mile to a mile and a half
across, I think. Took me three years before I finally finished the whole
distance, and that was in a relatively sheltered part of Long Island
Sound. Swimming the English Channel...I've always been impressed by
those who had what it took to do it.

They do try to feed/hydrate her from a long pole or net. The regulations say
she must keep swimming or treading water the whole time.
Reports were that the salt water was making her very sick so she was
throwing up. Her people were worried about her energy level because of it,
but it all worked out.
