Have you heard of the Jones Act? Unless you read Newsmax and listen to a
lot of right-wing radio, probably not. It's an obscure statute that's
been on the books since 1920, and it requires all shipping between U.S.
ports or in U.S. coastal waters to be carried in U.S.-flag ships that
are owned and crewed by U.S. citizens.

So why are conservatives suddenly up in arms about it? Because, they
claim, it's a labor-inspired rule that's obstructing aid to a Gulf Coast

the right wing loves BP oil as shown by their recent apology. they
defend wall street and the banks as shown by their recent meeting with

Actually, did you see this months employment numbers... ya sure bet

But 658,000 people gave up looking for work....

7.9 million fewer people at work in private business since this began.

14.6 million people looking for work.

Last months prop up numbers of the 400,000 census workers are again
looking for work.

Monthly job cuts are up to 125,000 for the month was partially offset by

Reading books. I started investing in 1984. Quickly became apparent
why rich were rich and poor were poor and I decided I was going to cross
the street. And did. Those old fashioned sayings like save for a rainy
day, they were ace on.

Rich are Rich because:

1) They never borrow money to spend on "stuff" that does not make them
money.

2) They tend NOT to have personal debt.

3) They have a non-fad and realistic view of the markets. Well honed in
their areas.

4) They think for themselves.

5) Unless a house of large value, they always spend less than they make.

6) They invest heavily in themselves to understand their enviroments.

Thats the secret summary. The rest is as simple as buy low sell high.
And I smell a buying opportunity in maing about September or October.
But time will tell, Obama can do a lot of damage between now and then.

For the indicators I use, I agree in part. Economic destruction began

Unemployment too shows this. Plot unemployment for the last 8 years

You can't dig yourself out of a hole by digging the hole deeper.

gee. how did the depression of 29 end?

we spent our way out.

Actually not entirely. Europe opened up their bank accounts and
borrowed and sold what they could to raise money for American goods to
fight the war. Only after recovery in Amerca was well under way and
with budget under control start to borrow and then entered the war.

It took DC almost 10 years to get its spending and then debt under control.

And what really drove it was people producing exports people wanted and
would pay for.

The
spending has to stop, and then you just have further to fall.

Welcome to the Obama Recession.s

sorry sport. bush was pres when the depression hit in 2007

You are partially right here.

2006 congress putzed with money creation and stupid low interest rates
letting debt go rampant. Making Bush was president for the begining of
the recession. Bush did start the corruption when democrats asked the
lame president to bailout banks, and later with president elect Obama's
support. In fact, Obama has not once been against bailouts.

Obama made it a depression. Really pounded it in hard with the DC black
hole for money and debt growing like dandilions. Just added to the
mess, see GMAC a 4 time welfare bailouts.

And the recession really began in earnest in Sept. 2008. About 1 year
after congress openly ignored the interest rate invesion of 2007.
Interest rate inversions lasting longer than 2 months have preceeded
every recession/depression to date, or at least as far back as 1870.

In reality, Congress started this mess and when Obama looked like he was
going to be the winner, the market crashed in Sept 2008 anticipating
Obamanation in November. Market always is and always has been a crystal
ball into the future.

I am sure there is truth to his book, Obama is the first president you

That this despression is about debtors not paying their
bills and that includes Obama/Democrat congress.

Debt whores are destroying the worlds economic system, and #1 debtor
in
the world is now Obama. Spent more debt money than any other human
that
ever lived.

we need to spend MORE to undo the right wing damage. otherwise we'll
never dig ourselves out of this hole the right put us in

Where is the money going to come from? The well is dry.

cut defense spending by 150B...as conservatives have even
recommended...

That doesn't even pay the interes ton Obama's $3 trillion.

Try hacking $1.5 trillion (and rising). That is where you break even.

borrow even more and use it to pump up the economy.

Tried that, does not work. Reagan did better, in less taxes. His only
mistake was not shrinking government to fit.

force companies to distribute productivy increases to their workers
instead of paying dividends to give the middle class a pay increase to
SPEND

What increases? GM went bankrupt sucking over $177 billion in wealth down
the sewer. (not including GMAC)

and implement tax cuts for the MIDDLE CLASS, not the rich, like the
GOP has been doing for 30 years

Funny, finally got around to Reaganomics. Took about 10 months and the
recession ended.

But given the government debt/deficit, hacking away at government waste
with a chain saw is also needed.

you right wingers cant remember YESTERDAY.

When does it become Obama's problem? 2369?

it may never be possible to undo the damage the right wing did.

You are right in that the tipping point of US debt may have been
exceeded and that the US economy and currency is bankrupt. If so, look
to 3rd world status in months not years.

but the rich will do very well if the GOP gets back in

Welcome to 1870... Some stats are now worse than 1929.

yep. courtesy of the right wing

Think as you will. I believe liberal debt, liberal corruption, liberal
bailouts, liberal waste all made this happen.

Cut the waste and corruption leaving peole with more of their own money
and halting the debt spiral is the only way out. The longer the idiots
wait to see reality, the worse it will get.

we need to spend MORE to undo the right wing damage. otherwise we'll

You can't spend your way out of debt.

?? sure you can. in fact it's the ONLY way to get out of debt. if NO
ONE SPENDS then companies dont need to create jobs

It is why you are a debtor.

what do you think companies are going to do? make **** and let it sit
in warehouses?

Nope, waste of capital to do so.

where did you learn economics? culinary arts school?

Reading books. I started investing in 1984. Quickly became apparent why
rich were rich and poor were poor and I decided I was going to cross the
street. And did. Those old fashioned sayings like save for a rainy day,
they were ace on.

And
I smell a buying opportunity in maing about September or October. But time
will tell, Obama can do a lot of damage between now and then.

are owned and crewed by U.S. citizens.

So why are conservatives suddenly up in arms about it? Because,

You can't dig yourself out of a hole by digging the hole deeper.

gee. how did the depression of 29 end?

we spent our way out.

Actually not entirely. Europe opened up their bank accounts and borrowed
and sold what they could to raise money for American goods to fight the
war. Only after recovery in Amerca was well under way and with budget
under control start to borrow and then entered the war.

It took DC almost 10 years to get its spending and then debt under
control.

Just added to the mess,
see GMAC a 4 time welfare bailouts.

And the recession really began in earnest in Sept. 2008. About 1 year
after congress openly ignored the interest rate invesion of 2007. Interest
rate inversions lasting longer than 2 months have preceeded every
recession/depression to date, or at least as far back as 1870.

In reality, Congress started this mess and when Obama looked like he was
going to be the winner, the market crashed in Sept 2008 anticipating
Obamanation in November. Market always is and always has been a crystal
ball into the future.

she's
a dope and knows she's wrong but doesn't have the balls to admit it.
Aparently she missed the link that explains why liberals react the way
they
do when they hear the truth.

I am sure there is truth to his book, Obama is the first president you are
accused of being a racist if you disagree or joke on him. Me, I figure it
is the racism in blacks. But then they probably think you have to be
white to be racist, which is racist in itself.

No big, my skin is thicker. I criticised Bush for bank bailouts, I will
criticise Obama for the debt spiral and corruption waste.

Just shows they lost the rational of the argument and they know it. Sort
of like defunct debtors denial.

Don't bother going to the post office. Your subsistence check from the local
KKK isn't there yet.

actually what happened is people are starting to take the right wing

in

it's having the same effect it did in1930. it's destroying the

When you spend like an ape gone wild the bill eventually comes due.
There has to be budget cuts, massive cutbacks to the federal payroll,
cutbacks in entitlement programs, rounding up wetbacks and other
illegals and removing them from our soil, etc. Welcome to phase two of
the Obama Recession.
Oh, I almost forgot, If we're going to level the playing field we need
to eliminate the money grabbing unions.

bull****. the FIRST people to go after are the people who sold CDO'S,
and had capital gains tax rates of 15%. the 'wetback's have no money.
WTF is killing THEM going to do?

christ you right wingers have NO solutions, do you? you're nothing but
cliches

Right wingers have the answers, the problem is you lefties don't want to
hear them. You are too busy pooching the system. Too greedy and myopic
to care.

the US has no unions. and it's WALLSTREET that ****ed the economy. NOT
the middle class

I would say almost everybody had a part. But will say you vote for the
president who hasn't put one single person in jail. In fact, he opens up
his wallet and bails them out!

So by your own warped logic, you should hate Obama because he supports the
corrupt.

Have you heard of the Jones Act?

snip.............
When do Republicans lie? Every time they open their mouths.

Unbelievable.
People are hanging around trying to dream up inaccurate crap at every
turn.
Sure sounds a lot like the 'Dopers' we suffer here in wrecked boats.

You follow Harry like a puppy. Turn off your computer and spend your
efforts on your dysfunctional family, Don.

Have you heard of the Jones Act? Unless you read Newsmax and listen
to a
lot of right-wing radio, probably not. It's an obscure statute that's
been on the books since 1920, and it requires all shipping between
U.S.
ports or in U.S. coastal waters to be carried in U.S.-flag ships that
are owned and crewed by U.S. citizens.

So why are conservatives suddenly up in arms about it? Because, they
claim, it's a labor-inspired rule that's obstructing aid to a Gulf
Coast

the right wing loves BP oil as shown by their recent apology. they
defend wall street and the banks as shown by their recent meeting with
top level hedge fund CEO's

they HATE the middle class as shown by their paranoid conspiracy
theories.

the GOP needs to be destroyed

Actually, did you see this months employment numbers... ya sure bet
Obama wants to brag about it going down to 9.5%...

But 658,000 people gave up looking for work....

7.9 million fewer people at work in private business since this began.

14.6 million people looking for work.

Last months prop up numbers of the 400,000 census workers are again
looking for work.

Monthly job cuts are up to 125,000 for the month was partially offset by
private job hires iof 33,000.

More than 525,000 new unemployed started to look for work last month to
replace the lost job.

How is Obamanonics really working far ya?

Great, and it is going to take a long time to recover from the Great
Bush Recession. Those of us with intellect knew that.

You are going to play that until BO finishes his one term and is removed
from office, aren't you?
