Tips For Starcraft II 2v2

This is a set of tips for the online real time strategy game Starcraft II with a focus on two versus two scenarios. As you can imagine there are many different viable strategies in which you can employ in this game but there are a few things in which you must do to sustain a fighting chance in each and every game.

First you and your teammate must work together. Now this may seem obvious but you cannot just go off and do your own thing while your partner does the same. Make sure you are talking about which units you are trying to build so your teammate can back you up with complimenting units. There is nothing worse than to mass ground units while your opponents are going air and you get completely destroyed. Another thing you can do is to allow control of your units by your teammate. This can help a couple different ways, the first being your partner can do all the micro attacking while you focus on building up each others' economies. This spreading out of the workload can help greatly against difficult opponents. Also make sure you are watching your teammate's back helping them cover their base in case of a double attack from your enemies, which will happen if they want to have any chance at winning because in two vs. two you must attack and defend together.

My second tip is to always know what your opponents are doing. This can be tricky since there are more than one but since you and your partner should be sharing the work load one of you can be given the task of scouting. Scouting is very important because it will allow you to build the correct units to counter as well as take out your opponents vital expansion bases. Also since you are aware of what is going on around the map you can detect rushes against your economy which comes via reapers or early air.

My final tip is to expand as soon as your resources allow it and in places where your opponent would not guess. This is a great way to get extra resources in a place where your opponents, even if they are scouting effectively, may not notice. Each race has tools to do this with, Terran can build a command center within their own base and simply lift it off and fly it to a corner of the map. Zerg can send an overlord to the base and "spawn creep" into a nydus worm to start their expansion. And for Protoss the conventional shuttle drop will have to suffice. If and when your opponents try to take out your expansion bases simply hit their main to cripple them and you should have a much easier time taking them out.

So in summary make sure you and your teammate are working in sync with each other. Scout effectively and counter what your opponents are doing. And of course try to expand in places where your opponents would not guess which will allow you to counter attack effectively.
