Just to toss in an OT post......

Had a good ride in the pontoon. Banana River was pretty well deserted by the
time we got out, 5pm. Saw a couple fishing from a Gheenoo and lady and kids
towing a tube behind a PWC. Too hot earlier, humidity is back and high..
Think I'll install a whale tail on my outboard and see if I can move the
"sweet spot" up a couple hundred RPMs.
What do you think gfretwell? Anyone else put one of these on a pontoon? Will
it help? Runs pretty nice at about 3,800 now.

I have never seen anyone with one on a pontoon. I am not sure it would
help much.

I wonder if it would allow jacking up the motor a little higher?

I am running mine 4" above the stock position without one. The main
"blow out" problem is on hard turns where the wash from the outboard
pontoon starves the prop and I doubt a fin will help that.
My impression was there were to help pop out small planing hulls and
sweeten the trim a bit. Trim is really not much of an issue on a
pontoon until you get a huge motor.

I had a big time cavitation issue on my RIB dinghy when I went to a
Honda 4 stroke from my old Merc 15. THe whale tail helped a lot as
well as getting it up on plane a lot faster. It was a good
investment.
