A good watch

A previous thread morphed into a discussion of watches. Since this is
a boating NG, a good watch should be nearly waterproof and in my case
seriously shockproof cuz I will wear it caving too. I used to wear
cheapo Casio digital watches until they started putting every weirdo
feature in em till you could no longer tell the time without
consulting the manual. My son also informed me that digitals are for
nerds which does not bother me much but my wife also said I ought to
get a good looking watch.
So, suggestions on an under $200 watch.
How about under $300?

My boss when I worked for a defense contractor in the 80s was a Marine
Corps Colonel with a PhD in physics who flew his own plane, a real
interesting guy. One day I went with him to a jewlery store in Sam
Diego so he could get his watch checked. The store owner offered to
buy his watch and offered "15" which my boss refused thinking it was
worth at least "18". After we left, I asked if his watch was a Rolex
and he replied that his watch was to a Rolex what a Rolex was to
Timex. What I had interpreted as $1500 and $1800 was actually $15000
and $18000. The watch was an Audeman-Piaget (or something like that)
and he wore it all the time. Although he was a short guy, I think he
could take care of himself if somebody tried to mug him.

Man, I dont' know much about watches seeing I have a hard time from
beating them up, but yes aI have a distaste for digitals no matter how
water proof they are. I hate punching a button just to see wha time it
is. And I also agre that they have way to many googly options on them
for something to tell time, that is if that's all your wanting. But my
old Seiko was a good wrist watch and it's a 'classic' too, and it just
looks cool as all get out. and is supposedly good for depths up to
200m. It's as water proof as I'll ever need.

I'm glad this was brought up because I want to get it running again.
A good waterproof time piece is hard to beat, and I can't stand the
idea of having a rubber band around my wrist.

My freaking cheap assed Rolex's crystal chipped. It will cost $800 for a
new one. And yes it is a real Rolex. It is a 1966 model.

I can buy several Seiko's with that $800.

I have a Skagen Titanium watch I really like. Band catch is broken at the
present time, and I rarely wear a watch these days. And I do have a real
Rolex that works fine. The Skagen weighs almost nothing, which I really
like and the Titanium is pretty indestructible. Was about $100 on sale at
Macy's a few years ago.

I listed the watches that I own. Everyone knows I own the best of
everything. Your watches are crap.
