Well, it's kind of hard to moderate a usenet open forum, and I know
you have made that offer before. And I'm no "net-cop"

And yes, the only reason there are 'personal' attacks here in
rec.boats, is totally over nothing but politics. And you, Don, Harry
and others know that a boating forum shouldn't be a place for
political arguments and resentments, but unfortunately it's become
that way to the point of being totally offensive and worse , very
consuming.

You see me on alt. guitar.bass, or other forums. If I want to hash the
cesspool of politics, theres countless forums I'd feel at home. Here

So far, the 16 foot Brockway type skiff (uncharacteristic build for me)
carries a 25 horse long shaft but Tom gave me a 35 that I might put on
there this summer sometime.

Well, anyone can build a homebuilt. I happen to be a USCG Registered
builder (means I successfully filled out the paperwork) and so I am
somewhat bound to the rules and regulations as set fourth by the USCG.
As to testing and inspection it varies from state to state. In CT the
DEP takes care of it. Back when I was building we took the vessel to a
CG office and an inspector looked it over, made sure it was what the
registration said it was, and gave you a "hull identification number"
which is attached with one way screws. Really, they are mostly making
sure you paid your taxes on the vessel and the material;)

Now, a local DEP guy comes in and does an inspection on site. It's
pretty simple as most of them have no clue so you tell them what to look
for and where to put the HIN;0...
