Happy Memorial Day
I see not much has happened differently in rec.boats since I left Fri
to head for Kansas. We just got back last night and to tired to head for the lake today. Thursday evening before we left I went to three local cemeteries, and decorated 13 of my family mostly divided between ww1 and ww2 vets, with one from the Spanish-American and one from the Civil War. Then Friday morning we headed for Kansas. It may be the last time I ever will go out to dress graves of my ancestors on my mom's side, Long and tiresome, but it was a great trip, just the same. Anyhow, I'm half way feeling back to normal again, so it's time to get ready for the huge cookout. And before that, I might go do some work on the 23' Marquis. decisions, decisions.... Anyway, enjoy the day . |

I post the *details* of my boating adventures at "the other place," where w'hine and his kind don't post their snotty remarks about other posters. -- The Tea Party's teabaggers are just the Republican base by another name. |

It will be interesting to hear the stories. :-) We got back last night. It was an interesting day on the bay on Saturday (really warm weather!)... interesting boat also. The guy currently owns a Sabre 36 (not sure what year). He also bought a Sabre 426 (it's 2005/2006 I think) on the East Coast, but his plans have changed and wants to stay with the 36. He's asking a bit more than we originally planned, but I think he'd take close to our original max (about $300K). Anyway, we took a nice long sail on the 36. Here's a pic of me having a great time (yes, I have a hair-color change for those who saw the previous pic and yes, I'm sound asleep). :) http://stashbox.org/912966/emsmall.png Apparently, when you have something over 39', there are a bunch more Coast Guard requirements (equipment/regs?), so we would need to factor in if we want that additional hassle. Also, we would either need to get it here or sail from there, so that's a decision factor also. Of course, no decisions have been made other than to request more information. Hey, I got to steer the boat for about 1/2 hour. Prepare to tack! Arggg.... Cool... _then_ I took a nap. |

"...The act of remembrance was for the estimated 188 American soldiers who died as prisoners of the British army in the War of 1812, and were buried on Deadman's Island. An informal ceremony has been held every Memorial Day since 2005 when the municipality bought the land and turned it into a park to prevent condominium development on the site....When developers were about to put condominiums on the land, the issue that it was an unmarked burial ground was raised." I didn't know of that. Thanks Don! |

I have several family artifacts fro battles and conflicts from the past. And I make sure that they're graves are decorated on each Memorial Day. No brag on my part, but this year I also went around to a lot of other local grave sites and layed out 64 flags. And that didn't cover them all. Next year I'll probably set 0ut a hundred or more. Somebody needs to do it. |
