Dealin with the heat

Being a N FL native, the heat used to never bother me but as I have
gotten older it has become a major issue for me so that I just do not
sail when it is hot. However, I have agreed to take my 23 yr old
daughter and her bf to the bahamas next week from Lake Worth inlet.
My 28' sailboat has very little in the way of electrical power, not
enough to run any sort of cooling and is not even set up for shore
power. So, I am going to simply have to deal with the heat. Of
course I have the bimini, will drink lots of gatoraide, wear a straw
hat, install another fan aboard, etc.
So, how uncomfy will it be? N. FL in mid summer is awful with no wind
and insanely high humidity. Will it be that bad in the Bahamas? IF
there is any wind at night, it will be ok if I sleep on deck. Gotta
figure how to hang the hammock over the bow with the skeeter net.

You could always rent a couple of air conditioned hotel rooms, eh.

If you cruise the Abacos as I think you are planning, it will probably
be cooler than Florida and with better wind. The mosquitos are not
that bad if you stay away from mangrove areas and maintain a sea
breeze at night. Are you still planning to stay in the Berry Islands?
The northern Abacos have a lot to offer if you like the boondocks.

If you have not yet bought the Explorer chart books for the Abacos you
should run out and do that. West Marine usually has them.

Might think about rigging a boom tent. You can rig one with a tarp and PVC
poles to keep it spread out. Helps to have a tent over the foc'sle also.
