So, what you're saying is that a segment of Congress grew up, and another segment regressed. and no question that southern dems became southern republicans. as LBJ said when he signed the bill "i think we just handed the south to the GOP for the next generation'. and he was right. if the GOP supported the bill, southern racists didn't see it that way. |
