Hotel owner offers prom for Mississippi students

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A hotel owner in New Orleans is offering to host a
prom for seniors at a Mississippi high school.

The school's own prom was canceled after an 18-year-old lesbian student
said she wanted to take her girlfriend, and wear a tux. The ACLU
demanded that school officials change their policy against same-sex prom
dates. And it said the district violated Constance McMillen's free
expression rights by not letting her wear a tux.

McMillen is asking a federal judge to force the school district to
reinstate the dance.

Meanwhile, New Orleans hotel owner Sean Cummings is offering to take the
students to New Orleans by bus, and host a free prom at one of his
properties.

He tells a Jackson newspaper (The Clarion-Ledger) he's disappointed with
the school board's decision -- and that high school should be concluded
on a "joyful" note.

What better place for a prom than New Orleans?

Yup...good deal all around. Where would you rather attend a prom? In
dippy Jackson, Mississippi, *or* NO? :)

I wish we had this when I was in school. When I was in middle school, a
high school senior used to give me booze and use me as a sex toy. Then
I had to stumble home drunk as a skunk. It would have been nice to have
a nice hotel room to go to.

Sometimes I think the high school senior really didn't like me, and he
was just using me for sex.

Yeah, why not look up teen pregnancy rates so you know what you're
talking about instead of yaking from your ass, as usual?

That's because Mississippi ranks right up there at the top!!!

Here, let me do a 30 second search that proves you wrong...

States ranked by rates of pregnancy among women age 15-19 (pregnancies
per thousand):

1.Nevada (113)
2.Arizona (104)
3.Mississippi (103)
4.New Mexico (103)
5.Texas (101)
6.Florida (97)
7.California (96)
8.Georgia (95)
9.North Carolina (95)
10.Arkansas (93)

States ranked by rates of live births among women age 15-19 (births
per thousand):

1.Mississippi (71)
2.Texas (69)
3.Arizona (67)
4.Arkansas (66)
5.New Mexico (66)
6.Georgia (63)
7.Louisiana (62)
8.Nevada (61)
9.Alabama (61)
10.Oklahoma (60)

Not only is MS stupid enough to get pregnant, they're the most likely
to keep 'em as teens.

Mississippi, the state that leads in the promotion of teen parenthood.

When you go by ethnicity the African Americans and Latinos don't look
so good. You could explain the Latino problem on the Catholic dogma

I remember when the fundie First Baptist Church in Florida pushed its
teens to sign "we won't screw before marriage" vows. Five years later,
the rate of teen pregnancy had soared at that church. So had the

The fundies won't be happy until the united states is a fundie christian

This is a fascinating "bit" from one of the Kos bloggers:

I've been thinking about God's position on abortion
by radish tattoo

Most people I know who are anti-choice, oppose abortion on religious
grounds, but I see no evidence that God is opposed to abortion.

If God delivers babies to wombs, he often pulls their souls right back
out creating miscarriages. God puts fetuses into drug users, smokers,
and people with little or no food. He puts them into wealthy people who
can secure abortions in private, away from the accusing stares of
grandmothers holding picket signs of dismembered meat. He puts babies
into unfortunate people who are washed away by tsunamis, crushed by the
wreckage of earthquakes, or destroyed in their houses by stray bombs
intended for terrorists.

This is only a partial list of stupid places to put fertilized human
eggs if your intention is to get them born.

Look, it is the height of arrogance for someone to think that they need
to intervene for God to get babies born. People who harass clinics must
believe God is seriously flawed. What else could explain a 15 year old
named Sally who arrives at her local clinic for an abortion? Since she
was 8 years old, she has been taking care of her much younger siblings
because her single mother works two full time low paying jobs.

Sally cherishes her brother and sister, and she cares for them as well
as any adult could, but in her private thoughts she says everyday. "I
will never have children." This fact does not waiver when, to please her
18 year old boyfriend, she has unprotected sex. When Sally arrives at
the clinic on this hypothetical day, she is focused on the procedure
that she will have, and she hardly notices the protesters shouting at her.

If God put the next Einstein in Sally, He failed miserably.

I can think of several scenarios that an engaged God might have to
impregnate Sally, and none of them are about the fetus that she aborts.
I can also imagine an ambivalent God who is not involved with the day to
day affairs of Earth and knows nothing of Sally's condition.

Do people who actively oppose abortion think that God has trouble
getting the people he wants born born? I don't think they've thought
this through.

Either God is pro-choice or He's stupid. I declare God is pro-choice.

It is always dangerous to make too much of a statistic without putting
it into context.

Abstinence doesn't work. Education does. If you educated the child
in reproductive health, show them the responsibilities of becoming a
parent and teach them safe pracitces, they tend not to get pregnant.

If you tell them they can't have sex, they go wild.

The fact that teen pregnancy happens chiefly in states that promote
abstinence is damned good proof that an uneducated population is more
likely to make bad life choices.

Black or white.

What better place for a prom than New Orleans?

Parents better hope those bus seats don't recline.

It is not Seattle. So maybe there is some personal responsibility.

Yeah, why not look up teen pregnancy rates so you know what you're
talking about instead of yaking from your ass, as usual?

That's because Mississippi ranks right up there at the top!!!

Here, let me do a 30 second search that proves you wrong...

States ranked by rates of pregnancy among women age 15-19 (pregnancies
per thousand):

1.Nevada (113)
2.Arizona (104)
3.Mississippi (103)
4.New Mexico (103)
5.Texas (101)
6.Florida (97)
7.California (96)
8.Georgia (95)
9.North Carolina (95)
10.Arkansas (93)

States ranked by rates of live births among women age 15-19 (births
per thousand):

1.Mississippi (71)
2.Texas (69)
3.Arizona (67)
4.Arkansas (66)
5.New Mexico (66)
6.Georgia (63)
7.Louisiana (62)
8.Nevada (61)
9.Alabama (61)
10.Oklahoma (60)

See Washington State in the top ten? Guess not, ass talker...

Not only is MS stupid enough to get pregnant, they're the most likely
to keep 'em as teens.

Mississippi, the state that leads in the promotion of teen parenthood.

I referred to Seattle, not Washington state. Geographically area wise
Washington is a conservative state.

Looks like the christian fundie states lead the rest in teen
pregnancies. I guess those fundie christian values they teach in those
backwards churches make the diff.

Perhaps they should slice this by "born again" and "everyone else".
When you go by ethnicity the African Americans and Latinos don't look
so good. You could explain the Latino problem on the Catholic dogma
against any kind of limit on fertility.

Or sunspots...
