"The Scottish would call it "thrifty." ?;^ ) The money you think you are saving is more than overcome by the inability of your gear to perform to any reasonable standard. And yeah, I'd hate to ditch a $15 monitor! Send it to...loogy. In fact, send the whole kit and caboodle to loogy. :) Lenovo has some neat new laptops coming out, and at very low prices. Lenovo is the chinese company that used to manufacture IBM's thinkpads, and then bought the whole operation. They still make decent laptops. I hate to recommend a chinese company, but more and more computer manufacturing/assembly is being done there, and it's almost impossible to avoid. To the best of my knowledge, there are no more laptop and desktop PCs actually manufactured in the USA, and very few in Japan or Korea. My new Mac has pieces and parts from everywhere. The monitor is made in Korea and the WD hard drive comes from Singapore. If you ordered one just like it today, the monitor might come from Vietnam and the hard drive from Malaysia. |

It's got windows vista and hasn't had any problems with it except for the power supply died, but they sent her a new one promptly. other than that, no other problems that I know of. Actually, the few times I have called "AppleCare" the past couple of years, the "techie" was in Texas. One of the things Apple does somewhat better than most of its competitors is after sales service. I've yet to encounter a tech at Apple who seems to be reading off a script. And when I called Epson for tech info about my new printer, the tech guy was in the Norfolk area. |

I hope they'll be encouraged to keep those jobs here. |

""The money you think you are saving is more than overcome by the inability of your gear to perform to any reasonable standard." But for being a work computer where I use it to make order tickets and invoices etc, it does fine and that's basically all I need. well, besides to look in here occasionally. "Yield not to temptation" If I set up for high speed and a more modern machine I'd probably watch youtube vids all day and not get much of anything accomplished. Besides, here at home, I spend too much time on the crazy thing anyhow. |

Nothing less would be acceptable! :) |

The scanner works pretty well too. and even though I don't use it, I like having the FAX feature, too! But these new cartridges are small! I imagine they'll spend the ink really easy. |

There are some really inexpensive laser printers around - $100 or so - that are far more economical than inkjet printers on a cost per copy basis. |

I had thought of that Harry, and it would be great to go that route, but I needed something quickly and didn't have time to shop around. I'm looking for one, but not really in a rush now that I'm set up again, but If the daughter's quits on her at college, I'll give her this one and look seriously at the lasers. good call, though. |
