I've been messing with it for about two hours - it's incredible.

And for zippo - nada - zero - no bucks. I have some professional
programs for my Celestron telescope that aren't this good.

Amazing.

My dad was quite a star gazer, Tom. He would have absolutely loved
this!

He was 84 when he passed away two years ago, and he would have never
drempt stuff like this was possible.

Amazing isn't the word. Who needs a telescope?

That is a cool piece of software.

Thanks!

Mars is very visible in the eastern sky, mid to late evening.

Want to check out those stars up close and personal? Check out Celestia.

http://www.shatters.net/celestia/

It's another open source, "free" program. Then there's Kstars, but
you'ld have to run Linux to run that one.

There's a portable version of this software available, too, that I've
been using for a while. I wasn't aware of this site, though. I had
downloaded the portable version from portableapps.com Thanks for the

Thanks for the link Tom. Got my daughter a "GoScope" from Orion for

Oh gosh - it's been a while. When I used it last, the base gazing
software is very cool and does what it's supposed to do. The planet
fly-bys and various space craft seem a little gimmicky to me, but I do
like the photo realistic closeups. I'm not knocking it, but I like
the plain old Stellarium package out of the box. The odd thing is I
like it better than Starry Nights which is a pretty good program for
just gazing.

I have several professional level auto-ranging programs for my
Celestron so I can track satellites, the Space Lab and the shuttle
flights automatically. Stellarium ranks right up there in terms of
graphics - in some ways it's better.

If you haven't discovered the zoom keys in stellarium yet, they are page
up and page down.

I found it, but I haven't played with it much yet - I was bouncing
back and forth between programs comparing graphics. :)

I really like this program. For shareware, it's a good one - enough
to pay for it in my opinion.

D'oh. Look at the headers, **** for brains...it's one of the ID
spoofers. I have not a clue what a Meade "goto" scope is. Why would I
want to waste my time and evenings looking at satellite fly-bys? It's
not like I'm SW tom or flajim or the other old farts with nothing better
to do at night.- Hide quoted text -

I had forgotten about that one - I have it, but haven't used it in
quite a while.

I just took a peek at celestia it looks like a good piece of software.
How would you rate it against Stellarium?
I got a Meade goto scope for Christmas but didn't get the cable to
download satellite information yet. I have read that visible satellite
flybys are brief and occur just before sunrise. Have you had good
experience viewing satellites?- Hide quoted text -

I've been messing with it for about two hours - it's incredible.

And for zippo - nada - zero - no bucks. I have some professional
programs for my Celestron telescope that aren't this good.

Amazing.

Probably missed the part where the developer suggests making a
donation to:

http://www.greenpeace.com/forms/gpicontr.html

No - I already sent the developer $50.

You, on the other hand, wouldn't pay a dime for it I'm sure.

Moron.

You think I'm a moron because I haven't sent him money? If you're
honoring his accomplishments, any moron knows the correct thing to do
is honor them in the manner they suggested.

When someone asks you that a loved one's memory be preserved through a
donation to their favorite charity rather than sending flowers, do you
send flowers anyway?

What has caused you to become so illogical while being such an ass?

Curious minds are dying to know.

Hey, fella, although I'm too fat, lazy, and unskilled to do any
maintenance myself, I still have all of the best tools in the world. Oh,
wait, another lie, and I said I was going to stop. Sorry.
