ebay boats not selling
 

Usually the winter time is when to find the bargains, and I always
like looking at ebay for boats, and I see some delicious craft that
should move and they're not even geting a bid. OR they have reserves
and starting bids so jacked up no one is interested.

Looks like some people are wanting to get out of them for what they
either have left on the loan, or they feel because it is apraised at
$15,000, it ought to sell for $15,000.


What ever happened to the $10.00 opening bids with a fair reserve?


Regardless, it looks like people are stuck with what they have.

Yes, I agree. I've done pretty good buying on ebay. Taht's where I got
both of my boats, and I thought I did pretty good. Now the same types
of boats are being listed at abotu three times the price with no
bidders.

For some reason in the boating side, it doesn't seem like a buyers, or
a sellers market. Stuff is just sitting.

We probably buy entirely different "stuff." I just "won" a new set of
speakers - M-Audio Studiophile AV 40s - for my new iMac on a different
auction site. I just checked eBay...they were available there, but at
twice the price I paid. I paid $68 plus $15 shipping. They are about
$140 from Amazon, and typically $149+ on eBay, and most of those on eBay
are "buy it now." Why the hell would anyone buy from eBay when, if you
want to pay retail, you can buy from Amazon for less and get free shipping?

Now for "trinkets," eBay seems okay. My wife likes to look for certain
items to build out her collection of depression glass, and sometimes
finds good buys on eBay.

A neighbor of mine had a twin engine gas guzzler that he wanted to get
rid of, a nice clean, late model 34 ft express cruiser that he got at
a relative bargain 4 years ago. There were no reasonable offers in 2
years on the market. He finally found a broker on the east coast of
FL that specializes in the export market. It sold relatively quickly
to an Australian who was not only willing to pay a reasonable price
but also $25K in shipping. Apparently they just can't buy that kind
of boat over there.

I sold my Bass Tracker to a guy in GA on eBay. He drove over 250 miles,
handed over the cash, and drove it back - another 250 miles. Nice guy.
He had a few questions later about how things worked and was very
satisfied with his purchase.

He said "it seems"... I assume that means it is his opinion.. Either
way, it happens. Several years ago right here we had a guy who was
spamming us with his "boat stickers". I started watching his bidding
site on ebay and found that every item seemed to sell to similar sellers
for almost the exact same price. I went to his profile and found about 5
different "feedback" phrases repeated over and over again in a pattern..
I called it to the attention of EBay and they pulled him down. It was
pretty obvious he was bidding his own stuff up to keep the prices fixed
and when he didn't get his bid he simply bought it himself and put in
his own feedback.. Either way, I assume they (ebay) saw it they way I
did as they pulled him down a day or so later, and he dissappeared...

He would have paid the final value % to eBay. How can that be profitable?
