I jsut got a call from Tom Shortfishing.

They're traveling though Virginia and he is amazed at how much snow
there was. Here in S. IL, it rained yesterday and all night. I'd say
we got over 3" in less than 24 hrs. it looks like all the low spots
are flooded, and its 48 degrees. He said it was 34 and clear where he
was. It was nice to hear from the guy.

I wished him a Merry Christmas and safe travel.

same with every one else.

This has been the rainiest year here in SE Illinois that I can recall,
Tim.

In spite of the weather, Merry Christmas to you, too!

Yeah. All that damn snow caused my boat cover to rip. Now Mr. Kim will
make enough money to buy a Christmas ham, or bulgogi, or whatever.

He's giving me 24 hour turnaround too. Can't beat Koreans when it
comes to getting things fixed. They're great.

Maybe too late, but would it help to add a support pole where he is
making the repair.

The guy who shrinkwraps my parker makes an elaborate "trellis/frame" out
of 1/2" wide nylon tape, on which the plastic rests. Herring's boat is
18'. For $8 x 18 or $144 he could have had a professional wrapping job
that would have protected his boat from winter and not have put his
fabric cover at risk. Based upon Herring's boating repair/maintence
misadventures reported here, he's penny-foolish and pound foolish, too.

Remember...he wanted to winterize his motor with WD40 and lube it with
two-cycle oil, among other idiocies.

Gene,
None of these fitted covers are meant to protect against a snow load. In
fact, you should remove them before traveling on the highway. However, a
pole might help to prevent sags where pockets could form and collect
water. John could build a frame structure to deal with the snow. The
idea is to make the slope of the tarp steep enough that the snow slides
of rather than build up.

I had a support there. When I put it back, I'll add a lot more padding
to the support.
