Nope, just stab wounds. Good thing she didn't have a gun, eh? SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A Missouri teenager is accused of stabbing a man with an ice pick in a dispute over a parking spot. Eighteen-year-old Caitlen Watkins of Springfield was charged Monday in Greene County with first-degree assault and armed criminal action. According to court documents, Watkins and a passenger in her car confronted another driver Sunday in the parking lot of a shopping center after he took a parking place Watkins wanted. Witnesses told police a fight broke out and the other driver was stabbed half a dozen times with a wooden-handled, 5-inch ice pick. Police say the other driver suffered a punctured kidney. A judge set Watkins' bond at $75,000. She did not have a lawyer. She has not yet had a hearing or entered a plea. |

If a gun weren't available, how many of those assaults would be perforned by a knife or ice pick? It's easy to cherry pick numbers, and offer an illusory conclusion without offering access to the full data and knowing who's doing the data gathering and statistical analysis (to know what their agenda may be). Is that your take, Gene? My take is that, if she had come at me with an ice pick, she would be the one with ".40 puncture marks." Once mayhem was in that darling little 18 year old's mind, we changed gears and the "why" didn't matter anymore. A baby faced 18 year old, armed with an ice pick, assaulting a perfect stranger over some imagined trivial event. Now, THAT is why we have CCLs...... Yes, a gun vs. an ice pick. And what if she pulled a gun out and before you recognized the threat, she started firing? Sure didn't help the cops in Tacoma, even with open carry holsters. Think it'd be easier to get to your weapon than the trained cops? You betcha. |

Of course not. But thanks for making the point... when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns..... Is that a talking point, Gene? Couldn't the profuse number of cheap handguns manufactured in the past several decades account for their easy availability? Golly, we should certainly thank the NRA and congress for ensuring everyone can be armed several times over, no matter their mental capacity or criminal history. I don't like cheap handguns. I buy fairly expensive ones.... :) |

I wouldn't fight over a parking space. I figure the other driver would be a deranged loser like jackoff, herring, little justhate or loogy...and since I rarely drive around "heeled," I'd have to kick 'em in the nuts real hard. |

Thanks for the entertainment. They still sell ice picks up here. You can get block ice for coolers and, as you undoubtedly remember, it's fun to chip off various sized pieces to cool your favorite libation. When I was a lad, living summers on a farm in the Ozarks, the highlight of the week was to ride into Doniphan in the bed of my grand dads' Ford pickup to get block ice from the ice house. This was in the mid-50's Wrapped the block in burlap feed bags and got it home with no noticeable melt. It was for the icebox, as there was no refrigerator. Don't remember handing the icepick myself, and there was never ice in what we drank. Only remember drinking water, pulled with a bucket from the well, and everybody used the dipper that stayed in the bucket. Cool when the bucket was fresh, mineral laden, and delicious. Summers were hot there. Outhouse with the Sears catalog paper dispenser, Saturday bath in the washtub, run around in your underpants, check your ears and balls for ticks every night, and wake up most days with a couple spider bites. The ice man was still making the rounds in Chicago about the same time, but we had fridge there. Think I used an icepick once in my life, sometimes later. Seen maybe 5 different ones in my entire sheltered life. Seen a lot more packing pullers and mech scribes than icepicks. Might have bought 20 bags of crushed ice in my entire life for coolers. You got me thinking I've lived a wasted life. Does Walmart carry icepicks? Might pick up a couple while there's still time. Find a block of ice and a bottle of liquor. Hey! You trying to make me an alcoholic? --Vic |

Ice Pick Murder?
If someone stole my parking space I'd been waiting for I'd likely give 'em the salute but I seriously doubt I'd get out to argue with them or pull a gun or an ice pick. A skinny old fart once took my parking space. He saw me waiting, and slid in with a small car like in Fried Green Tomatoes. He got out. I got out of my car, but stood in the open door. "You're a brave man", I said. "Why's that?" he asked. "You just stole my parking space, and now you're going to leave me here with your car." I got in and drove to another space. He was standing by his car. I went in and got a few items, about ten minutes. When I came out, he was still standing by his car. As I drove off, I could still see him standing next to his car. At least I made him think about it. Steve |
